With the winter season drawing to a close, and those all important miles being banked its time to look forwards to the summer race season…. oh yes, scarily enough the first sprint races of year are literally 6-7 weeks away! With triathlon being one of the fastest growing sports in the country, you not only have to be quick to finish in the top 10, you have to be even quicker to get yourself on that start line in the first place!
The popular UK events such as Windsor and the London Excel triathlon have sold out already and I can guarantee that there will be a similar trend amongst many of the races at both club and national level. For those of you who are doing your first triathlon, a sprint or super sprint distance is generally manageable regardless of the your ability. The wonderful thing about triathlon is that it welcomes people of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels and I can promise you that its one of the few events that you will actually feel comfortable head to toe in lycra!!!
For those more serious age groupers out there, 2012 promises to be a year of hard racing, tough competition and plenty of bloody, sweat and tears. There is an action packed calender of events this year, with races across the country on pretty much every weekend. The AG World Championship Qualifiers feature in late June and the European Qualifiers in July and early September. There are also the wonderfully run 70.3 and Ironman events for those crazy enough to consider it…..
