‘Premier’ performances at Blenheim Triathlon

Its with great pleasure and pride that I write about the weekends performances at the magnificent Blenheim Palace Triathlon. We had 11 of the ‘Premier Crew’ racing and not one of them disappointed. The day started with a little cloud and rather a strong breeze but this did not put off the hardy crew. Spurred on by watching the elite athletes Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee, the team were pumped and ready for action.

First off were the boys and what an exciting race they created. Al samshed off at his usual enthusiastic pace and managed to hit the front of the swim, unfortunately this was short lived as the ex rugby prop’s battery started to fade! First out the water was phil, who held onto his lead throughout the race, finishing in a rather impressive 1:16:15. Second over the line was Davey who smashed last years time by 3 mins, bringing him home in a very respectable 1:19:51. Al suffered a calf strain so unfortunately limped home in 1:37:27. Despite his injury he managed PB’s in both the swim and the cycle.

First time outings for James, Luke and Khaled. These boys set some impressive times despite some mechanical hitches, somewhat heavy bikes and missing their start times! James set a time of 1:25:36, just 6 seconds quicker than Luke in 1:25:42 and Khaled finished it off in 1:28;51. Thankfully it stayed dry overnight and the rest of the boys took the challenge on sunday. Jonathan wrapped it all up in 1:41:56 and Andy completed in a speedy time of 1:22:45.

The girls were strong as ever, Andrea romped home in a PB time of 1:31:35. She was shortly chased home by Vicky in 1:32:15 and Maryam in 1:49:33 having suffered some rather debilitating cramp.

Last but definitely not least was Cat, aka Bung Lung. Having had to pull out of the previous two years racing due to a rather frustrating recurring pneumothorax, it was third time lucky. She successfully completed her first ever super sprint triathlon in 1:08:02. We are all immensely proud of her for never giving up and ALWAYS supporting the rest of the crew, it was great to finally be able to return the favour!
